Sample Job Description:
Principal UX Consultant

Thoughtfully design with our award-winning UX Design Agency

Tired of the big company grind? Trade boardroom politics for a familial, accomplished remote team.

We're Slide UX, a client-focused, family-owned, fully-remote UX consultancy. We work with a wide range of clients across a wide range of UX and UI challenges.

We're seeking a confident and flexible design leader who wants to make a real impact on the business and clients he/she serves, but is also not ready to put the mouse down. The right candidate is ready to lead the client and a team of mid- and associate-level designers and researchers to produce great interface design (and along the way, great business strategy and results.) This person generates big, exciting ideas, but isn't too fancy to sweat the details (or to teach their reports how to do the same). One part designer extraordinaire, one part business-minded adviser, one part up for whatever might come your way.

Our assignments span product and marketing, across a wide range of company sizes and industries. We've had six years of steady growth, and there's plenty of work to do here, but this isn't a rush hire. Every new hire — especially a lead — should add a new dimension to our carefully crafted, employee-empowered culture. What can you bring to the table?

Responsibilities

  • Lead clients through our design process, which includes scheduling, communication, and all things design

  • Generate strategic concepts that help clients imagine their site or product's future look

  • Design based on real user insights gathered by our team or client data

  • Coach and eventually manage teammates

  • Contribute to the ever-improvement of Slide UX systems and processes

Expectations

  • Experience leading projects end-to-end: meeting facilitation, requirements gathering & clarification, status reporting, scheduling, and internal direction

  • Confidence, professionalism, and helpfulness in client communication

  • Familiarity with UX research methods, though you won't have to execute research by yourself

  • Self-starter who can balance multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced team environment

  • Open personality that can break through the virtual barrier with teammates you might not see often

  • Ready to work from home, with reliable internet and Slide-provided equipment; and willing to travel when needed

Requirements

  • 5+ years of visual design, wireframing, and prototyping experience

  • Proficiency with Sketch

  • Experience on the front-lines of client services for a digital (web or product) design team

  • Experience with remote work or geographically distributed teams

  • Team leadership or management experience is preferred; 'Team player' traits are a must

  • A working knowledge of current user experience design standards

Bonus points for

  • Agency experience

  • Interest and experience with user research and/or product management

Benefits

As a full-time member of the Slider team, you can expect a whole host of perks including more personal time. Remote work means less time wasted in traffic or dressing to impress. You’ve heard of “take your dog to work,” this is “take work to your dog.” You'll stay refreshed with 120 hrs/yr in PTO and 10 official company holidays, as well as a handful of unofficial holidays including the week between Christmas & New Year's. We'll also set you up with a tax-deferred retirement savings with our 401k, including a Roth option & employer matching. And all eligible Sliders enjoy a health reimbursement account which can go toward private health insurance or other qualified expenses.

About Slide UX

When we opened our doors in 2012, UX wasn't yet a buzz word. Our goal then, and our goal now, is to design online experiences that are useful, usable, good-looking, and optimized. We huddle our designers, researchers, and strategists on each project and deliver what we're pleased to read is oftentimes above and beyond our clients' expectations. We love what we do - and it shows.
